Auf einem breiten Fluss befinden sich im Vordergrund mehrere Boote. Die Perspektive lässt vermuten, dass der Maler sich ebenfalls auf einem Boot befand. Links liegt ein großes Hausboot, das mit roten Blumen auf seiner Dachterrasse geschmückt ist. Der Flusslauf wird von einer bewaldeten Landzunge im Mittelgrund auf eine schmale Stelle ganz rechts verengt. Dahinter erhebt sich die Bergkette des Himalaya.
