1890 hielt sich der Maler Hans Herrmann in Amsterdam auf und im Jahr darauf entstand eines seiner vielen Werke mit Marktszenen und Kanallandschaften. Diese Ansicht des Fischmarktes von Amsterdam wurde auf der VI. Internationalen Kunstausstellung 1892 in München vorgestellt und im Jahr darauf für die Sammlung der Stadt Magdeburg erworben.
