Die Bandmaschine wurde zur Herstellung von synthetischem Warmkautschuk in Form eines endlosen Kautschukbandes genutzt. Sie entspricht in ihrem Aufbau einer Papiergießmaschine und wurde bei der Entwicklung der Aufarbeitungstechnologie synthetischer Kautschuke in den 30er Jahren von der Papierindustrie übernommen und zweckentsprechend modifiziert. Synthetischer Warmkautschuk entsteht durch Fällung einer Latex-Emulsion mit Essigsäure, Magnesiumchlorid und Wasser als Füllungsmittel.
