Der Diplomat und Reiseschriftsteller Johann Hermann Freiherr von Riedesel (1740-1785) ist hier im Oval im Schrägprofil nach rechts (vom Betrachter aus) dargestellt. Während seiner Grand Tour durch Italien entdeckte Riedesel sein Interesse an klassischen Altertümern und lernte 1763 in Rom Johann Joachim Winckelmann kennen, der ihn in seiner wissenschaftlichen Methodik und seinem ästhetischen Urteil beeinflusste, und reiste mit ihm nach Campanien. Riedesel verfasste die "Reise durch Sizilien und Großgriechenland"; außerdem bereiste er u.a. die Levante, Kleinasien, Griechenland, Spanien und Portugal. Bezeichnet: Joh. Herm. Frhr. v.
